You’re Too Close to Your Business to See What’s Wrong With It

What a deep way to start the week. As someone who has been in marketing for a long time, I have to say that I’ve been guilty of being too close to my own business to see that I was the reason it wasn’t working.
Why You’re Too Close to Your Business to See What’s Wrong With It
At first, I started an e-commerce business when I was 23 years old. I took a course from one of the big-name gurus at the time and thought, “Okay, perfect. The plan is to create a website with Shopify, then plug in some apps so I can create a sense of scarcity and get people to buy my product.”
If I’m honest, I had literally the worst plan ever. No market research, no idea who my customer would be, and no way of promoting my product.
Basically, my mind was telling me that I would create this amazing product that everyone would want to buy and make millions of dollars in one month, just like everyone said I would.
No Meta Ads, no Google Ads, no TikTok (it wasn’t even a platform available at the time).
So, I prepared for the launch, wrote all my product descriptions without any help, paid for Shopify, and BOOM! I was ready to sell millions.
After four months of spending a lot of money on more courses, app subscriptions, and paying people to redesign my website, I had made zero sales. I was basically in the red.
What I Thought Was Wrong With My Business
After the third month, I decided I needed to learn the basics of Meta Ads. I paid someone in Mexico City to teach me how to run simple Meta Ads campaigns.
I got a lot of views but no sales.
After six months, I had paid a lot of people, made no sales, invested a lot of money, and decided to close my shop.
I was very discouraged. I really hated that I hadn’t made even a single sale, and I didn’t understand why this was happening.
I took the courses. I made the investment. What was the issue?

What Was Actually Wrong With My Business
It wasn’t until I majored in Business Marketing that I understood that a beautiful website with the best funnel is PART of the equation, but it’s not the only thing that will make or break your business.
You can have the best ad strategy and still get lots of views and likes but no sales.
I believe that when you’re so close to your own ideas and your own business, you need to get an outside perspective. Without a second set of eyes or someone taking a close look at your business, you’ll most certainly miss the mark and fail.
Why Ads Alone Won’t Make Your Business Sell
Google Ads is an incredible tool, and so are Meta Ads and TikTok Ads, but they aren’t the only ways to make sales.
When we’ve done 5-Day Obsessions for other businesses, the last thing we focus on is the actual ads because, most of the time, the problem lies within the company itself (customer service, client journey, CRM, inbound leads).
These are things that need to be fixed first! Then, we’ll move on to ad creation.
What You Need to Understand About Your Business
So, basically, everyone has made the mistake of being too close to their own business and ideas.
The key here is to be smart and acknowledge that we cannot possibly know everything there is to know about business.
We need to bring in people who are experts at what they do.
The journey is long and sometimes hard, but with the right help, it will be much better.
